Histori
In 1884 Glenbrook Mills recorded 337 acres at a point on Lake Tahoe. In 1898, Lake Tahoe Train and Transport Company (D.L. Bliss) was formed and built a narrow gauge along the 16 miles (26 km) to an area known as the Dollar Point. The South Pacific leased the track rights in 1925 and converted the track to Standard gauges in 1926, purchased the property in 1933, and left its mark in 1943. In 1916, Lora Josephine Knight bought the point. The land was originally part of an area called Chinquapin by the Washoe Indians. Robert Dollar bought many properties such as 1,436 hectares in Rossmoor, California and in 1927 he bought an area that had been called "Old Lousy", "a bad point", and the Observatory Point, from Lora Knight. He became famous for building Vikingsholm Castle in 1929. He and her husband were also major financial supporters of Charles Lindbergh's non-stop solo flight across the Atlantic.
Dollar Point is located in Sierra Nevada Mountain Range at the corner of Northwest Lake Tahoe. Carnelian Bay is on the north side, Tahoe City to the south, and Tahoe National Forest and Burton Creek State Park extends along the east side. State Route 28 is the only major highway access to the area and stretches along the northwest border of the Dollar Point. The dollar also bought a soil reaction to the east of SR 28 which is now called Chinquapin development.
