A hand truck , also known as two-wheeled , pile truck , trundler , box basket , barrow sack , basket , sack truck , dolly , or bag barrow , is a cart that moves L-shaped box with a handle on one end, a wheel on the base, with a small ledge to place the object on top, flat against the floor when the hand truck is upright. The object to be moved is tilted forward, the ledge is inserted underneath it, and the objects are left tilted back and resting on the ledge. The truck and the object are then tilted backwards until the weight is balanced on the big wheels, making large objects and weights easier to move. This is a first class lever.

Overview

Sack trucks were originally used in the 18th century to move large sacks of spices on the pier by boys, from the age of 11, who could not lift big sacks with their hands. Using this method they can work as well as adult men in moving things around. Later, the truck was changed for use in many different industries, such as brewing, where hops were transferred to sacks.

Some hand trucks are equipped with stairclimber wheels, as the name suggests, designed for up and down stairs. Stairclimber wheels can sometimes be problematic when trying to turn on flat ground because four wheels in a fixed position will come in contact with the ground.

Hand trucks are made of various types of materials, including steel tubes, aluminum tubes, aluminum extrusions and high impact plastics. Most commercial hand trucks used for food and beverage service delivery are rough and very light. They are usually built from two side rails extruded aluminum conduit and cast aluminum or magnesium parts.

Some options that can be considered are wheel types, ladder climbers, grip types and wheel sizes.

Another thing to consider is the shape of the load compared to the form of a backrest, for example. , the cylindrical load should sit on the curved backrest, and the environmental conditions under which the hand truck will operate. For example, on wheels the loose or unevenness of the ground is a great advantage; a tire filled with a solid foam or a leaking puncture can be used where a puncture can deflect a pneumatic tire.

A rule of thumb is that the tip of a truck's foot or nose should be at least one-third of the load's length.

Hand trucks are sometimes used as luggage carts by porters at train stations and skycaps at the airport.

A piano tilter is a type of hand truck to move the piano upright without damaging it. Unlike traditional dolls that rotate around wheels or smaller dots, the piano tilter has a large curved section to gently tilt the piano upright until it lies on its back.
