History

The Million Dollar is the first movie house built by businessman Sid Grauman. Grauman was then responsible for Grauman's Egyptian Theater and Grauman's Chinese Theater, both on Hollywood Boulevard, and partly responsible for the entertainment district that shifted from downtown Los Angeles to Hollywood in the mid-1920s. The sculptor Joseph Mora performs a surprisingly elaborate and surprising exterior of the Spanish Colonial Revival exterior, including the luxurious bursts of Churrigueresque decorations, statues, longhorn skulls and other strange features. The architect of the auditorium is William L. Woollett, and the twelve-story tower designer is Los Angeles architect Albert C. Martin, Sr. Over the years the office building became the headquarters of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.

1940s

In the 1940s the theater was the second house run by the famous Orpheum Circuit. Stories like Nat King Cole Trio, and Joe Liggins and The Honey Drippers perform on stage. In 1949, the Million Dollar was taken over by Frank Fouce, a local theater and distributor of Spanish-language films. Million Dollar Theater became a mecca of Spanish, especially Mexico, entertainment in the United States. Dolores del RÃÆ'o, Cantinflas, MarÃÆ'a Fà © Ã… © lix, AgustÃÆ'n Lara, Josà © © Alfredo JimÃÆ' © nez, JosÃÆ' © Feliciano, Juan Gabriel, Vicente FernÃÆ'¡ndez, and Celia Cruz are just some of the artists who work for Empresa Fouce ( Fouce Company). It was also the first place where Mexican movie star Antonio Aguilar worked with a rodeo horse on stage. This is where it says it contains an idea for the production of a large rodeo arena.

1950s-1960s

In the late 1950s and early 1960s theater owner, Frank Fouce, went on to find Spain International Communications Corp., named after the Spanish International Theater Company (which included the Million Dollar Theater and the Maya Theater, also located in Downtown Los Angeles). The company consists of the first Spanish language group and UHF television stations in the United States; KMEX Channel 34 in Los Angeles (and, indirectly, the Univision television network) can trace its roots to the Million Dollar Theater. The Million Dollar Theater and the Fouce Family are pioneers in the uncharted Spanish entertainment industry.

For their efforts, Frank Fouce was awarded El Aguila Azteca (Order of the Aztec Eagle), Mexico's highest civilian award, by President Miguel AlemÃÆ'¡n Valdà ©. Theater and Frank Fouce are also honored by Mexican unions, YOU, for their contributions to Mexican film, recording and entertainment industries. In addition to a very successful stage production, the theater is also the most prominent Spanish-language cinema in the United States. Every big Mexican movie goes on Million Dollar, which is the most famous Spanish-language movie theater. 1970s-1990s

Gonzalo L. Checa, president of the Spanish division of the Metropolitan Theater Corporation, was responsible for the increased attendance at the Million Dollar Theater in the 1970s and 1980s because of his great skills and keen insight into the needs of Hispanic community entertainment. He is the one who watches, contracts and schedules fantastic showcase shows and premieres of international films from famous Mexican and Latin movie stars such as Mario Moreno (Cantinflas) and famous Spanish singer/actress Sarita Montiel and Argentine "Elvis" Sandro de AmÃÆ' Â © rica. During this golden age, a large number of people waiting to attend the Million Dollar will wrap the block and cause the Los Angeles Poice Department to close Broadway for traffic. He is a renowned expert, consultant and authority of Mexican and Spanish Cinema as well as a legendary and respected member of the Spanish film business world, who became a low profile and behind-the-scenes power broker who helped launch the US Invasion of stars like Vicente FernÃÆ'Â ¡ndez, JosÃÆ' JosÃÆ' Â © Â ©, Nelson Ned, Juan Gabriel, Julio AlemÃÆ'¡n, MarÃÆ'a Elena Velasco ( "La India Maria"), Cuenca Enrique Marquez and Eduardo Manzano ( "Los Polivoces"), RaÃÆ'ºl RamÃÆ'rez, Jorge Rivero Rodolfo de Anda, Eulalio Gonzalez ( "El Piporo"), Joan Sebastian, Antonio Aguilar and Flor Silvestre wife, Gaspar Henaine ( "Capulina"), and the famous silver masked wrestler GuzmÃÆ'¡n Rodolfo Huerta ( "El Santo") as well as many other great and great spanish entertainment. Yellin Co. acquired the building in 1989.

2000s

After serving as the home of a Spanish-speaking church for several years, the 2006 Million Dollar Theater was empty, although the office building had been renovated and converted into a residence. In February 2008, the theater reopened, once again featuring a vibrant Spanish theater. This is closed again in 2012. By 2017, the building is sold to Langdon Street Capital and theater and retail space is leased for CoBird startup mode owned by Christopher Hammond.
