McAdams is an environmentalist. He runs an eco-friendly lifestyle website, GreenIsSexy.org, with two friends for five years from 2007 to 2011. His home is powered by Bullfrog's renewable energy. He travels around Toronto on bicycles and does not own a car, but drives when in Los Angeles because it is "a more difficult city for cycling". He volunteered in Biloxi, Mississippi, and Louisiana in the fall of 2005, as part of a cleanup effort after Hurricane Katrina. McAdams sat in the assessment panel of TreeHugger/Live Earth in 2007. He applied for a donation during Canada for the Haitian telethon in 2010. He was involved in the Matter of Trust "hair blast" after the Gulf of Mexico oil spill of 2010. In 2011, McAdams supported Foodstock, a protest against a proposed limestone mine in Melancthon, Ontario. In 2013, he filmed two promotional videos for Food & amp; The First Water Movement, which aims to preserve major farmland and water resources in Ontario, Canada. In 2014, he narrated the feature documentary Take Me To The River , which investigated what was being done to try to save the iconic rivers.
Other causes
In 2006, McAdams took part in a demonstration of "A Day Without Immigrants" in Los Angeles, protesting against the federal government's efforts to further criminalize illegal aliens living in the United States. In 2011, he attended the Toronto Occupy demonstration. In 2013, McAdams volunteered with Habitat for Humanity in his hometown, St. Thomas. She also works with charities including the Canadian Sunshine Foundation, Alzheimer's Association, READ Campaign, and United Way of Canada. He is a member of Represent.Us, an anti-corruption activist organization, and is part of his creative council.
Personal life
McAdams is in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He holds a US green card but has commented, "The world has become very small lately, and most of the movies are no longer recorded in Hollywood, so there's no point staying there."
On April 10, 2018, it was reported that McAdams had welcomed his first son, a son, with girlfriend Jamie Linden.
