Serial Shipping Container Code (SSCC) - Logistik KNOWHOW
src: logistikknowhow.com

serial sending code (SSCC) is the 18 digit number used to identify the logistics unit. To automate the reading process, SSCC is often encoded in barcodes, generally GS1-128, and can also be encoded in RFID tags. This is used in electronic trading transactions.

SSCC consists of extension digits, GS1 company prefix, serial reference, and check digit. It's all numerical. This applies to the tertiary packing rate.

SSCC is commonly used in EDI advance notification transactions (ASN).

SSCC should not be confused with the GRAI or GIAI code of the object (serial) in SSCC objects: SSCC is generated generally during packing on certain parties (shipping parties) and loses value upon receipt by or after being dismantled by the other party (the recipient). Serial objects in SSCC containers can always be identified by their GRAI or GIAI identifiers, except that the GRAI or GIAI code is no longer valid, either because the serial object itself is destroyed or the identifier is no longer valid.
