The boundaries include the Metropolitan Parkway to the east, Lee Street to the west, and Beltline to the north. To the south, the border follows Arden Street, Deckner Avenue, and Perkerson Park. Its central location is just minutes from Atlanta Downtown Atlanta, Midtown Atlanta, Buckhead, College Park, East Point, Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, and major and interstate highways like Downtown Connector/I-75/I-85, I-20 , and Metropolitan Parkway.

Capitol View is filled with housing stocks from 1915-1925 bungalow craftsmen and early Queen Anne houses that preceded the planned development of the neighborhood. Some of Queen Annes on Metropolitan Avenue was built by the Deckner family, whose name is Decker Avenue. Many historic homes are quickly renovated as the environment continues to revitalize and attract new residents.

Histori

Sejarah awal

In the first and second decades of the 1900s, the residential area now known as Capitol View is nothing more than a farm and pasture owned primarily by A.P. Stewart, "Uncle John" Shannon and the Deckner family. No paved roads, no electric lights and no sewage system.

In 1858, a 12-member charter from the Capitol View Baptist Church (located at Beatie Avenue) went to church with a lantern's light. Between 1910 and 1914, the community began to grow, largely due to the addition of Masonic Temple and pharmacies to the area. In 1913, utilities were installed and Capitol View annexed in the City of Atlanta.

The early 20th century trolley system revolutionized the Capitol View and led to streets laid out in grid patterns that have a longer north-south axis than east-west.

Commercial activity is concentrated along Dill Avenue, with major commercial crossroads on Dill and Metropolitan Parkway. This intersection has two main buildings, the 1921 Masonic Temple and the 1927 Capitol View United Baptist Church (destroyed in 2016) as well as several smaller commercial buildings.

Urban Update

In the late 1990s, Stewart Avenue was renamed Metropolitan Parkway in an attempt to shake up the bad reputation of the streets as a refuge from crime and prostitution. Since then Dill Avea restoring the area has helped increase property values and reduce crime. Approval from the district tax allocation for the Metropolitan Parkway (though excluding the Capitol View area) should help revitalize the long neglected business corridor. The rebuilding of nearby Fort McPherson into a future mixed film/development studio will provide employment opportunities for existing and new residents. MARTA is also in the process of transitioning the Oakland City MARTA station into a transit-oriented development by converting existing parking spaces into condominiums, apartments and storefronts.

With the 2014 Beltline construction, the upward trend toward city life, and the new Metropolitan Branch library, Capitol View appears to be on the path to revitalization like many other Atlanta city neighborhoods.

BeltLine Westside Trail

Atlanta BeltLine runs through the northern part of the Capitol View neighborhood, descends south from Adair Park and crosses the Metropolitan Avenue north of Erin Avenue (actually, it's the BeltLine bridge you drive under Metropolitan). From there, BeltLine heads to the neighboring Capitol View Manor.

In September 2013, the City of Atlanta received a $ 18 million TIGER V grant from the US Department of Transport to develop the Southwest Atlanta BeltLine corridor. In the second half of 2014, construction will begin on the 3-mile Westside Trail. The 3-mile Westside Line will run along the northern edge of Capitol View from University Avenue in Adair Park in the north to Lena Avenue in Washington Park in the West End. For half a mile along White Street, the trail will use the existing West End Trail. Project funding includes 14 entry points (11 of which will be accessible to ADA) with road and stairway systems, green lines, and preservation for future transit. Construction is expected to begin in autumn 2014.

The Atlanta BeltLine Westside Trail groundbreaking takes place on Wednesday, November 12 at 10:30 am. The Westside Trail, the next major milestone for the Atlanta BeltLine trail network, transit, park and green space will be an additional three miles from Avenue University in Adair Park to Lena Street in Washington Park. The design of the Westside Trail project is led by Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. in partnership with the Georgia Transportation Department and support from a design team led by Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. The initial phase of this complex project usually takes two years to complete. But the process only took nine months with the help of a unique partnership between Atlanta City, Georgia Department of Transportation, Federal Federal Street Administration, Atlanta BeltLine, Inc. and its design team. Construction of this project is expected to take about 24 months.

When completed, the Westside Trail will have a 14-foot-long concrete footprint trail in this historic railroad corridor. The project will also include construction of 14 access points, 11 of which are accessible by ADA, along with lighting, security cameras, signboards, road discovery, distance markers, and underground infrastructure. The Atlanta BeltLine arboretum expansion will blend with hundreds of large native trees and integrate over 30 new inviting and usable green space acres. The project will be built as preparation for future transit that is currently in the planning phase. Westside Trail connects four schools and four parks, as well as residents of 10 settlements in southwest Atlanta to public transport, existing community businesses, and future economic development sites.
