Histori

From the book, Images of the Age: : "Community members tried unsuccessfully to form a high school district as early as 1889. At that time, the family sent their son to Santa Clara or Stockton to the schools outside the eighth grade The girls went to San Jose, if they went, then on June 6, 1899, Lee Beal, a Jefferson Colony Farmer, and John Rutledge, a Clovis millman, led seven school districts to join the establishment of a high school district Each of the seven people elected to be the trustee on the board. The school was named Clovis High School, even though it was a Red Bank union, Jefferson Colony, Garfield Colony, Mississippi Settlement, Wolters Colonies, Temperance Colonies, and Clovis.

Continuing: "Seventeen high school students enrolled in class at Clovis school, Louis K. Webb, principal and teacher, received $ 120 per month Estelle Kellogg joined staff in September Two students, Emory Reyburn and REL Browne, the first pass of the 1902 class. A separate Clovis High School was funded by bonds in 1903, east of the railroad between the Fourth and Fifth Roads, was replaced in 1918. "

In 1920, Clovis High School moved to a new facility on Fifth Street built by William Weeks. High School remained in the building until 1969, when it moved to its current facility on Fowler Avenue. Buildings on Fifth Street gradually fall into a state of disrepair, regardless of its historical significance for the Clovis Community. This unique building features a patterned churrigueresque arch after the detailed baroque architecture of Spain in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. This arch is lowered by the State mandate after the Kern County 1952 quake due to security reasons. In 1995, San Joaquin College of Law met with city leaders and negotiated an agreement to bring the School of Law, which was founded in 1969, to Clovis from its Fresno website. This resulted in a multimillion dollar renovation that not only preserves the historic exterior of the building, but also preserves and reclaim many of its unique and historic interior features.
