There are several American-Canadian animation and motion-based direct motion-to-video based computers featuring Barbie dolls. Since his film debut in 1987 Barbie and the Rockers: Out of This World Barbie has been a virtual computer animated actress starring in several big screen movies and short films. Barbie has also appeared as a character in other films including Mattel's
Many of Barbie's films are classic stories from fairy tale by Brothers Grimm and Hans Christian Andersen to The Three Musketeers and The Nutcracker. Some are organized into their own fantasy worlds such as Fairytopia and Mariposa , which are reviewed in a video sequel. Others feature Barbie in the storyline with her sister.
The series was created by Mattel Creations. Mattel started the Barbie series with Barbie in the Nutcracker using Mattel Entertainment's name with animated work by Mainframe Entertainment (now Rainmaker Studios) except for The Barbie Diaries . Starting with the 2010 film Barbie: A Fashion Fairytale, Mattel calls themselves Barbie Entertainment for the production of Barbie movies. Beginning with Barbie and Secret Door in 2014, Mattel used their new in-house movie studio, Mattel Playground Productions to include Barbie movies in production without mentioning Rainmaker on the opening credits. Currently, starting with Barbie: Star Light Adventure by 2016, Mattel releases a newer Barbie movie called Mattel Creations.
Although the films are broadcast live on video, several movies have been broadcast on cable television on channels such as Nickelodeon.

Origins
Barbie's popularity in the toy market began to decline in the 1990s, and fought even further when MGA Entertainment introduced a series of Bratz dolls, whose sexual characters contrasted with the older and pure Barbie image. Therefore Mattel seeks to remodel the Barbie brand to keep the relevant toys to consumers in the modern era by bringing in consultants and conducting research on key market groups. Mattel consultants were initially thought to reduce the size of Barbie's breasts, but later claimed that the figure of the doll can not be changed because "consistently is one of its greatest strengths". This move may also be rejected due to the success of a sexual Bratz doll from a Mattel competitor. The Mattel team is also considered to target the career market audience of women and their daughters by introducing a line of Doctors or Lawyers Barbies. However, Mattel's research shows that girls spend more time online than playing with physical dolls. Therefore, Barbie targeted careers are discarded in search of a more interactive platform through online or digital media.
This resulted in the creation of the Barbie movie series, which originally revolves around Barbie's re-concept of a princess and eventually evolves into a variety of fashion and fantasy worlds. The main benefits of this strategy revolve around marketing, as Mattel can sell a separate doll for each film independently of DVDs and merchandise relating to props, costumes, and film sets. Tim Kilpin, senior vice president for marketing girls at Mattel, stated that "What you see now are some different Barbie worlds that are moored by content and telling stories.A girl can understand what role Barbie plays, what other characters do, and how they relate. That's a much richer story level leading to richer levels of play. "The strategy worked: US Sales Barbie, led by the princess line," increased by two percent in 2006, saving Mattel's bottom line at the time its worldwide toy market share is declining. " In the films, Mattel includes performances by famous companies and orchestras, such as London Symphony Orchestra, Czech Philharmonic and New York City Ballet. This association could be included as an enrichment strategy on behalf of Mattel's marketing team, to help films be seen as educational.
Barbie movies and their plot lines center on Barbie as a single CGI actress, and often frame Barbie as a modern girl who tells the story to a younger friend while starring in the movie simultaneously. Scholars who examine how Barbie's films differ from Disney and other princess narratives conclude that Mattel deliberately attempted to remediate his brand based on feminist criticism through stories-narrated in the films. Barbie has always been placed as the main hero of the story, with male characters and romantic interest serving as secondary to the plot. In a press release in 2009, Mattel noted that although Barbie "likes to wear a wedding dress," she "has never been married." This may not be true, because the 2004 film Barbie as Princess and Parents ended up with a double marriage between Barbie as Princess Anneliese, poor Erika, and their respective spouses.

Season 1 (1987)
The first generation consists of two TV specials. Barbie and Rocker: Get Out of This World was created in 1987 by DIC Entertainment. It was aired with Barbie and Sensations: Rockin 'Back to Earth as two mini-series sections, with each installment lasting for about 25 minutes. This miniseries should be a pilot for the Monday-Friday Barbie cartoon series. However, the negotiations between DIC and Mattel failed, and the project finally came up with a new character set - and a sponsor of Mattel rival Hasbro - as Maxie World in 1988. The story is based on Barbie dolls and Rocker lines where Barbie is the band's lead rock singer.
