Plot
In the town of Greendale in northern California, high school student Lane Myer has two major passions for skiing and her boyfriend for six months, Beth. Shortly before Christmas, Beth dumped Lane for the handsome and popular ski captain, Roy Stalin. Roy is also an unfairly arrogant bully denying Lane in a ski team trials. Beth also criticized Lane's car, an old train station. Although Lane also has a flawed 1967 Camaro, he has not been able to run it.
Lane lives in a suburban development with his mother, Jenny, a ditzy housewife who regularly mixes up creepy (and creeping) family meals; his genius younger brother, Badger, who never spoke but at the age of "almost 8" can make a powerful laser and attract a stocky woman; and the father of his lawyer, Al, who daily tries to stop the threatening paper maker Johnny damaging his garage by throwing newspapers. Furthermore, Johnny claims that Myers owes him two dollars for newspapers, and constantly hunts Lane screaming "I want my two bills!" Lane also regularly meets two Korean drag racers, one of whom learns to speak English by listening to Howard Cosell.
Lane could not get past Beth's rejection and decided that death was the only way out of his misery. He made some halfhearted attempts to commit suicide, all of which failed. With the help of his best friend, Charles de Mar - who in lieu of "real medicine" constantly inhaling everyday ingredients like Jell-O, snow, and nitrous oxide in a shake can - Lane tried to ski K-12 himself in hopes of getting Beth back, but removing it. Lane was more embarrassed when he was fired from his embarrassing fast-food job at Pig Burgers in front of Roy and Beth, who were there on a date. Above all, he is increasingly beginning to suffer from neurotic hallucinations due to increasing frustration in his life.
When Lane tries to end his life or win back his ex-girlfriend, he gradually recognizes a new girl: a foreign student named Monique, who likes him. She lives with Lane's neighbor, Mrs. Smith, and his socially backward son, Ricky, who is so annoying that Monique pretends not to speak English. Monique, a Dodgers fan, turned out to be an automated mechanic and skier who helped Lane fix the Camaro and try to build her confidence. When Roy insulted Monique, Lane challenged him to a ski race at K-12, with the winner captaining the ski team. Monique helped Lane prepare for the race, which he eventually won despite losing one ski and being chased by Johnny. Beth rushes to embrace Lane at the finish line, but he refuses and, after defeating Ricky in a pole-sword fight, goes with Monique in his Camaro. Lane and Monique were last seen kissing at home plate at Dodger Stadium, with Johnny cycling towards them, while in the Badger medium-sized scene destroying his home by launching a homemade shuttle from his room.

Reception
Siskel & amp; Ebert gave the film two thumbs down. Bill Cosford of Miami Herald wrote, "Better Off Dead has a tired teenage comedy body but the soul of an inspired student movie; it is the first film in a long time. to periodically interrupt him with a luxurious flight of animation. At one point, a romantic shadow is achieved with the sequence of "clays" featuring cheeseburgers in love.Another, a drunken teenager pulls an unfaithful boyfriend's cartoon picture, and the picture tells him to get lost. "
According to Savage Steve Holland, Cusack did not like the movie and got out of screening because they made One Crazy Summer, then confronted Holland by saying Better Off Dead was the worst thing I ever had. I will never trust you as a director again, so do not talk to me. "Holland claims that Cusack feels he has been made to look stupid and that his comment" made me no longer care about the movie ". However, in the 2013 chat Reddit "Ask Me Anything", Cusack, when asked if he hates the movie Better Off Dead , replied, "No, I just think it could be better, but I think it's about almost all my movies I'm not against the movie.... Glad people love it. "
Soundtrack
The soundtrack of this film is produced primarily by Rupert Hine.
The opening song, "With One Look (The Wildest Dream)", was produced by Hine and featured Cy Curnin and Jamie West-Oram from The Fixx on their respective lead vocals and guitars. Hine previously worked with Curnin and West-Oram, and also contributed vocals to the song. The following songs, "Arrested By You", as well as "Better Off Dub (Music Title)" and "Race The K-12 (Instrumental)" are performed only by Hine.
"Dancing in Isolation" featured Terri Nunn of Berlin on the main vocals. Hine produced the song and is reportedly being considered for producing an album for Berlin.
"Come to Your Rescue" was done by Thinkman, a group formed by, and including, Hine for the purpose of restoring his solo career without a music press knowing about it. West-Oram also provides guitar works for this song, as well as the instrumental "The Falcon Beat".
Only two songs on the CD without Hine involvement are "A Little Luck" and "One Way Love (Better Off Dead)." Elizabeth Girls Elizabeth Daily, credited to the soundtrack as E. G. Daily, sang the main vowels on both songs and also featured them in the film during the high school dance scene.
