Histori
Giant was founded in 1972 in Dajia, Taichung County (now part of Taichung City), by King Liu and some friends. A major breakthrough came in 1977 when Giant chief executive Tony Lo negotiated a deal with Schwinn to start producing bicycles as an OEM, producing bicycles for sale exclusively with other brand names as private labels. Since bicycle sales increased in the US, and after workers at the Schwinn plant in Chicago broke down in 1980, Giant became the main supplier, making more than two thirds of Schwinn bikes in the mid-1980s, representing 75% of Giant sales.. When Schwinn decided to seek a new source and in 1987 signed a contract with Chinese Bicycle Company to produce bicycles in Shenzhen, Giant, under the new president Bill Austin (formerly vice president of marketing at Schwinn), set up his own brand bicycle to compete. in the $ 200-and-above price range that is growing rapidly. In 1984, Giant also established a joint venture, "Giant Europe," with Andries Gaastra of the Dutch bicycle manufacturer, Koga-Miyata. In 1992, Gaastra sold its shares again, and Giant became a full shareholder of European Giant.
In 2014, Giant has sales in more than 50 countries, at more than 12,000 retail stores. In 2007, its global sales exceeded 5 million bicycles and US $ 820 million in global revenues, and by 2012 has reached 6.3 million bicycles and revenues of US $ 1.8 billion.

Sub-Brands
In 2008 Giant launched Liv/Giant sub-brand with products that are focused exclusively on the women's bicycle market. In 2014, Liv/Giant sub-brands re-branded to Liv. Re-branding is intended to further differentiate Liv brand products with existing Giant products, communicating the concept of "designed by women for women". All Liv's products are designed from the ground up including geometry frames, carbon layup and use separate molds and designs that separate them from Giant branded products. As part of the rebranding, Giant plans to roll out a special Liv zone in most of the Giant retailers.
Model
In 1995, Giant designed the first road bike with a sloping top tube featuring a smaller rear triangle. The more stringent chainstay-seatstay configurations are said to be more rigid than the more conventional frame designs, and because fewer materials are used, the Compact Road design is also said to be lighter. With more responsive bends and enhanced acceleration, as well as aerodynamic enhancements, the Giant's designs become highly imitated.
In 1998, with Mike Burrows, Giant perfected the design for racing by a professional ONCE team. This was only after the initial resistance by Union Cycliste Internationale and subsequent amendments to its rules to allow bikes with a top tilt tube.
The giant frame was originally made of aluminum alloy 6061 (ALUXX) and was also marked with bladed forks and seatposts to reduce air resistance. Frames come in three sizes (small, medium, and large), with riders mounted through the use of rods and seatposts of different lengths. Mike Burrows's other innovations featured on the original TCR (Total Compact Road) bikes include adjustable height rods, then removed from the road bikes for flexing under heavy loads.
In 2003, the TCR frame was offered in carbon fiber construction and marketed as a TCR Composite range. In 2006, Giant added a higher-quality carbon fiber frame that is marketed as an Advanced TCR frame, which is characterized by an integrated seatpost (ISP). These frames are most often driven in Tour de France by T-Mobile's professional team. Using this design, the seatpost on the new frame must be precisely cut to fit the owner by a trained Giant dealer. In 2010, TCR frames with ISPs continued to be seized internationally, mainly by the Rabobank team.
In terms of other innovations, Giant also introduced the Maestro suspension in 2006. Maestro Suspension, according to Giant, is designed to provide efficient rear suspension power transfer. Maestro uses four pivot point settings and two links to create a floating pivot point designed to reduce the pedal bob and allow the rear wheels to travel vertically.
Giant current (2016) categorizes first bikes by users (Men, Women, Youth), and then by Level:
- On-Road
- X-Road (for Men and Women)
- BMX (for Youth)
- Off-Road
In each Level there are some Usage, such as Race, Endurance, City, Cruiser, etc.
At the end of 2016, Giant announced the Road-E e-Bike, featuring:
- HCT (Hybrid Cycling Technology) drive system
- 500 watt 80Nm Yamaha mid drive motor
- 400Wh or 500Wh Integrated EnergyPack frame battery
- 4-sensor technology PedalPlus, and
- RideControl & amp; pad control with Bluetooth integration.
