The Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance is an annual automotive charity event held at Pebble Beach Golf Links in Pebble Beach, California, considered to be the most prestigious event of its kind. This is the final of Monterey Car Week held in August every year. A Concours d'Elegance (French, literally "elegance competition") is an event open to collector cars before the war and after the war in which they are judged for authenticity, functionality, history, and style. Classes are usually organized by type, marque (manufacturer), coachbuilder, country of origin, or time period. The judge selected the first, second and third winners for each class of the event, and the jury awarded the "Best of Show" to a car from the first place winner group. In addition, a group of honorary judges - individuals who have made significant contributions to the automotive or motor sports industry - provide a number of subjective awards to recognize outstanding vehicles regardless of the class band, as well as the memorial awards created to honor certain auto industry figures. About 15,000 spectators attended the event.

Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance was founded in 1950 in addition to Pebble Beach Road Race, a race event sponsored by Sports Car Club of America and performed on closed public road circuits. The 1950 and 1951 Concours are held at a training tee and driving range adjacent to the Beach Club, a private club near Del Monte Lodge (now known as "The Lodge at Pebble Beach"). Thirty cars were exhibited on November 4, 1950, and a smaller field 23 on May 27, 1951. In 1952, the event was moved to the 18th green of Pebble Beach Golf Links, between the Lodge at Pebble Beach and the Pacific Ocean, overlooking Carmel Bay.
Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance has continued since 1950 with a year gone: in 1960, the show was canceled due to scheduling conflicts. In addition, heavy rains at the event in 1963 and 1965 made the grass area unusable, so the cars were shown at the starting/finish line of the road race, near the horse stable now known as Pebble Beach Equestrian Center.
In 2001, the event saw the introduction of new categories for preservation cars. This category is designed to "testify about the passage of time", including what is called a car barn.
The 2006 event saw 175 cars lined up to 18th green and hole Pebble Beach Golf Links with 25 rated classes, with cars brought to Pebble Beach from 27 states and 13 countries (including US). The show portrays itself as "Showing pre-war and postwar cars along with the latest concept car design, Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance is the world's premiere concert."
24 of the 175 cars on the ground are from outside the US, representing Italy, Britain, France, Switzerland, Australia, China, Germany, Mexico, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands and the Philippines. The total estimated cost of vehicles scattered on the 18th fairway at the 2006 event is US $ 200 million. Of the 227 cars in 2005, the 2006 event had a field reduced to 175 cars. Organizers said the change was made to allow more time to assess each car.
In 2009, the Pebble Beach Concours included classic motorbikes for the first time with the Pre-1959 British Motorcycles theme.

Competitive field
Prospective participants must apply for each car, and the Concours field is selected from each applicant's year. Many collectors spend years and hundreds of thousands of dollars to buy and restore cars in the hope of being chosen. After the car was received at the Concours, the car could not be put on the show for ten years, with three exceptions; ownership of the car has changed, the car has been restored, or if the marque features are unclear, the Concours car selection committee can reach out to invite cars with various quality recovery - or cars previously included in the Concours - - to provide a healthy marque representation for the exhibition.
Many competing cars cost hundreds of thousands of dollars, and have recently become millions of dollars. For this reason, along with exceptional settings and facilities, Pebble Beach Concours is considered the premier concert in the world, and is the center of over 50 related events spanning over a week, including antique racing cars operating at Rolex Reunion Monterey Motorsports ( Previously called Monterey Historic Automobile Races) was held near WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, as well as a classic car auction.
Due to the high cost of purchasing, restoring and maintaining a good classic car, Pebble Beach Concours is sometimes regarded as the realm of very rich, or dedicated, fans and individuals and businesses that meet their interests. For repeat participants, their guests, and thousands of participants, Pebble Beach Concours is a social gathering as a special interest event. From the postwar Ferrari to the historic Bentleys, Concours assembles a historic-style car mix along with new vehicle presentations from car manufacturers, art fairs, auctions, and charity raffles.
Charity performance
The results of Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance have supported the United Way of Monterey County and Pebble Beach Company Foundation for a 56-year-old combination. It also supports a number of other local and national organizations.
The 2016 event garnered more than $ 1.75 million, and the Concours have given over $ 23 million to charity over the years.
