Histori
The Shangri-La's Mactan Resort & amp; The spa was opened by Wolf Dieter Flecker on October 23, 1993. When it first opened, the resort was significantly smaller than it is now, when "the sea view is unobstructed." Additions over the years include Ocean Wing and fish shelters, as well as palm trees and lagoon pools.
In 2007, the resort announced a multi-million dollar renovation program to coincide with the implementation of the 14th ASEAN Summit at the venue. The 188 rooms at Ocean Wing have been renovated, while tents that can accommodate 1,000 guests are also added.
In the same year, the resort celebrates its 15th year with an art exhibition of Cebuano painters, with 50% of the proceeds of the sale of works going to charity.
The three-phase update program from 2012 to 2013 includes new room types, overhaul of existing rooms and new themes, at a cost of P718 million (US $ 16.5 million).
The resort remains very popular with tourists from Korea and Japan, but with an increasing number of domestic guests. It also hosts international events, including pre-contest Miss Universe, APEC Summit, and ASEAN Leaders Summit.

The hotel staff keep the asylum with Amores Charities, Inc., Scotty's Sports Action Network and Lapu-Lapu City Government.
Design and construction
The resort was designed by Francisco MaÃÆ'à à ± osa and Partners, who has the responsibility to create the first resort chain in the Philippines. The concept of "calling for structures that are located in nature," and MaÃÆ' à ± osa decided to have the facade of the hotel's tilt to avoid the overly monumental feel structure among the palm trees.
Interior design developed by Dale Keller & amp; Associates. The furniture and decorations of teak and pearls in the room use Filipino craftsmanship, applied to headboards, wooden floors, and decorative chisel lights.
Landscape by Belt Collins International (HK) Limited was developed. The coastline itself has been reconfigured to create a sheltered man-made beach with a "naturalistic island in rafting distance."
