Discount cinema , also known as dollar cinema , dollar movie , second-run cinema , and sub theater-theater, is a movie theater that shows the film to lower the price after the movie left the first cinema. Initially, they will receive a 35mm film after they have been shown in the first cinemas; therefore the quality of the film will be lower because the film is used by dozens of performances, and the audience for the film will be reduced since the release of the previous week or month.
At that time, VHS has just climbed as an affordable home video technology. Consequently, budget-conscious movie viewers may wait for the movie to hit home local dollars instead of paying more money to watch the first run movie.
When the 21st century arrives, a pair of factors conspire to drive many discount cinemas out of business: 1) an oversupply of American movie screens caused by ambitious movies that allow to stay longer in theaters first, and 2) a delay between theatrical release and release VHS or DVD continues to shrink. This last factor convinced many movie lovers that it was not at all worth the money, hassle, and the possibility of meeting with noisy diners and sticky floors, meaning the dollar theater could be in the twilight of their existence.
