Introduction

The Dollywood Foundation, founded by Dolly Parton (born January 19, 1946), an American singer, songwriter, instrumentalist, record producer, actress, writer and entrepreneur, began in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Shortly after the opening of the Dollywood theme park in 1986, the Dollywood Foundation was established in April 1988, and began by offering scholarships to local high school students. From there it grew into the Imagination Library, beginning in 1995, which distributes free books to children every month, until the age of 5 years. The Dollywood Foundation has recently grown to become the My People Fund, which began in 2016 after a forest fire ripped Tennessee. The current President of Dollywood Company is Craig Ross. Currently, the foundation continues to support people in need by providing scholarships and awards to those who are entitled to receive them and provide support to countless non-profit organizations aimed at improving the quality of life of children and others in need.

Imagination Library

The Imagination Library is a free children's book distribution program started by Dolly Parton in 1995. It is located in Dollywood playground near Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Every child in Sevier County, Tennessee, where Parton was born and raised, is eligible to receive free age-appropriate books every month in letters up to the age of five, regardless of family income. In 2000, the Imagination Library became so popular that Dolly announced that she wanted to make the program available to every community that would partner with her and support it locally. The program has grown to over 1600 local communities in the US, Canada and the UK. This program can be implemented in other communities by private organizations, and Yayasan is responsible for the distribution of books in participating communities. From only a few dozen books to start, up to more than 80,000,000 were sent for such participation. The Foundation serves approximately 1,000,000 children every month. The program drastically improves literacy for registered children.

In November 2016, two teenage boys were accused of burning in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, known as the Great Smoky Mountains forest fire, which killed fourteen people and burned thousands of homes and businesses. The death toll included two children and a woman who died fleeing from the fire. Dolly gathers her Dollywood company (Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede, Dolly Parton's Lumberjack Adventure, Pirates Voyage, The Dollywood Company) and joins together to establish 'My People Fund' which ends up donating $ 1,000 per month to all families who lost their homes on fire. Those who collect charitable donations from the Dolly Foundation, can raise their funds for up to six months. Anyone can donate to My People Fund online or by mail. As the Dolly Foundation website states, every family whose main residence (tenant or homeowner) is a total or uninhabitable loss because forest fires in Sevier County qualify for charitable donations. Significant donors to the fund include Verizon, Tanger Outlets, Hippie Miley Cyrus Foundation, CoreCivic and The Blalock Company. The My People Fund has helped around 900 families and raised more than 9 million dollars.

The scholarship, after 16 years of waiting, will amount to nearly $ 50,000.
