Sprint Center is a large, multi-purpose indoor arena in downtown Kansas City, Missouri. Located at the intersection of 14th Street and Grand Boulevard on the east side of Power & amp; District of Light. The arena's naming rights partner is a Sprint telecommunications company, headquartered near Overland Park, Kansas.

The Sprint Center opened on October 10, 2007, and a concert by Elton John held three days later was the first arena event. The Arena holds 19,000 people and has 72 suites. The Sprint Center has effectively replaced the Kemper Arena, which was built in 1974 just a few miles away in the southern West Bottoms area. In addition, the College Basketball Experience, which includes the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame, is connected to and directly north of the Sprint Center.

The Sprint Center hosted the 12th Big Men's Basketball Tournament in 2008 and has been doing it every year since 2010. It also hosts the first and second rounds of the NCAA Putra Tournaments in 2009 and 2013, as well as the regional round of the NCAA Men's 2017 Tournament and NCAA Women's Women's Tournament 2010; is also scheduled to host the 2019 NCAA I Regional Male Division. The Arena is also home to the former Kansas City Command of the Arena Football League (AFL).

Kansas City City has held discussions with the National Hockey League (NHL) and National Basketball Association (NBA) on the possible expansion or relocation of professional hockey and/or basketball franchises for the arena; However, neither the NHL nor the NBA have agreed to the team to play in the Sprint Center.

The ground was damaged for the arena on 24 June 2005, and construction was completed on October 11, 2007. The final design, by the Arena Design Team Downtown (a collaboration of the Populous architectural firm, 360 Architecture, Rafael Architects, and Ellerbe Becket), was chosen in August 2005. The construction responsible for the entire project is MA Mortenson Company, based in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

In addition there are about 200 tons of profile and system accessories. All 2,404 individual glass units in the main building are produced in sequence and complete before shipment. The Great Men's 12 Men's Basketball Tournament was held at the Sprint Center in 2008, marking the return of the tournament to Kansas City after three years in Dallas and Oklahoma City. Upon returning to Oklahoma City in 2009, the Sprint Center returns to host the tournaments in 2010 and 2011. It is scheduled to host the tournament site until 2020. Due to the proximity of Kansas City to the University of Kansas in neighboring Lawrence, Jayhawk fans fill arena for the Big 12 Tournament game refers to the arena as "Allen Fieldhouse East" in reference to the Kansas home arena in Lawrence, Allen Fieldhouse. However, due to the recent Big 12 Tournament Iowa State success - winning three tournament championships in a span of four years - and their massive fanbase migration to the annual event, the Sprint Center was named by Iowa State fans as "Hilton South", after Iowa State home place , Hilton Coliseum.

The Arena also features the College Basketball Experience and the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame, located at 1301 Grand Boulevard and connected to the Sprint Center.

The arena's exterior is made of glass, and the interior features state-of-the-art technology with a 360-degree LED video screen. This facility allows Kansas City to attract most tour concerts to the United States. There has been speculation from the NBA or NHL team that moved to the Sprint Center, but no definitive plan has been announced.

The Kansas City Brigade played at the Sprint Center for one season before the original AFL folded after the postseason 2008. However, the revamped AFL brought the football arena to the Sprint Center in 2011, with the team playing as the Kansas City Command.

William "Boots" Del Biaggio, III, made an offer to buy Predator Nashville from NHL with the goal of taking the team to the Sprint Center. However, Del Biaggio has since joined a group of Nashville investors in an effort to keep the Predator in Nashville. In June 2008, Kansas City's hopes of landing the Predator took another blow when Del Biaggio encountered a legal problem over many unpaid loans, culminating in his filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, effectively ending any chance Del Biaggio moved the Predator to Missouri. On January 10, 2007, it was reported Los Angeles Clippers had been interested in moving to the arena. New Island Island owner Charles Wang announced the Islands will play a preseason game on September 22, 2009 at the Sprint Center against the Los Angeles Kings. Local media reported the anonymous team's source said the game was a Kansas City market test. In 2007, Kansas City and the Sprint Center also sought to withdraw the Pittsburgh Penguins relocation, but Penguins reached an agreement with City of Pittsburgh to build a new arena, the CONSOL Energy Center (now the PPG Paints Arena), and live in Western Pennsylvania. The Sprint Center has also been seen as a possible relocation spot for the New Orleans Hornets of the NBA and the Sacramento Kings (the latter has been played in Kansas City) before both teams solve their local problems. As recently as 2015, Kansas City is considered a potential site for potential expansion of the National Hockey League, but the consensus among those who have the resources to purchase expansion franchises for the arena is that the asking price of the NHL is too high.

Despite losing the pro team, the NBA and NHL have held preseason games at the Sprint Center. Latest preliminary NHL games, between St. Louis Blues and Minnesota Wild, took place on September 28, 2017; the latest NBA preseason games, between the Miami Heat and Philadelphia 76ers, takes place on October 13, 2017.
